John Franson is a Principal in our Boston Office. He has over 25 years of financial and valuation experience including valuation of business enterprises, intangible assets, and equity instruments for various purposes including common stock valuations, business combinations, goodwill impairment, corporate acquisitions and divestitures, litigation support, and financial and tax reporting. John has also acted as an assistant to CFOs to conduct financial analysis and deliver on tight time tables and varying circumstances that demand results.
John has served clients in various industries including alternative energy providers, cable television and Internet service providers, consumer products, financial services, industrial distributors, life sciences, restaurant chains, semiconductors, software, and telecommunications services.
Prior to establishing GBV in 2018, John was a director with Globalview Advisors LLC based in Boston. Prior to Globalview, he worked as an independent consultant assisting CFOs with acquisition and divestiture projects, managing capitalization models, assessing business activity, communicating between all stakeholders, and customizing financial presentations. He was also employed with KPMG Valuation Services where he performed valuations in connection with both publicly traded and privately held companies. Prior to that, John was employed with KPMG Consulting’s Federal Service practice conducting cost-benefit analyses, activity-based costing studies, and business process analyses for federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice, the Census Bureau, and the National Institutes of Health.
John is active in extracurricular professional and community activities. He served on the Board of Directors of the Washington, DC Chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum and is currently a Member of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge, as well as the Boston Security Analysts Society, the CFA Institute, the North Shore Technology Council, and the American Society of Appraisers (ASA). He was on the Board of Directors of Social Capital, Inc., a non-profit, non-partisan organization that advocates civic and community engagement primarily in Massachusetts, and serves in various volunteer capacities for local community activities in the Boston metropolitan area; John served as Chairperson for the period 2015-2018. Additionally he has enjoyed his role as an adjunct instructor of finance since 2017 at the University of New Hampshire.
John received his MS in Finance from Boston College and his BA in Economics from the University of New Hampshire. He has successfully completed the business valuation curriculum of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), as well as the national exam on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). John is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®).
John enjoys golfing, reading, and cooking and is an avid Boston sports fan. He lives in Lexington, Massachusetts with his wife and daughter while the family is not spending time in Ogunquit, Maine.
